Carryn Owens: Meet George Floyd Reanimated
When Trump played on the raw emotions of a grieving soldier’s wife
After a Trump-approved Yemeni raid took her husband Ryan’s life
The woman shed hot tears,
And the crowd exuberantly cheered.
Weeping, looking to heaven and clutching her heart
She was masterfully and playing the perfect part
And Trump opportunistically put on a masterful reality show
As he blithely said: “He’s looking down, you know”
Fast forward to George Floyd’s ignominious end
Saying “I can’t breathe again and again”
As officer Chouvin sits on George’s neck against his will
Staring off into space 8 minutes 46 seconds until his corpse is still.
And in response to this egregious demise
The entire nation white and black in protest arise
We watch in disbelief and great despair
As military men illegally clear peaceful protesters from LaFayette Square
So the President can casually stroll unmolested
In front of St. John’s Church uncontested
For a phot op seen across the land
Of Trump waving a Bible in his chubby right hand.
And today when the economic news is favorable
Trump says: “Hopefully George is looking down right now
And saying” (one wonders through his crushed trachea) how..
“This is a great thing that’s happening for our country”, he said
oblivious of the fact that George is stone cold dead.
“There’s a great day for him. It’s a great day for everybody.
It’s a great day for everybody. There’s a great great day in terms of equality.”
So, in both instances Trump reanimates the dead
In a crass and crude way which is egregiously self-serving
Reflecting Trumps needs and desires most unnerving.
But the scenario he describes is bizarre beyond believing
In light of the country’s heartfelt grieving
The inappropriateness shows a man who is empty
Who cannot be considered human due to lack of empathy
Who lacks any semblance of human emotion or concern
And will never our trust be able to earn.
