Democracy Now 18th Anniversary

Eighteen years ago today you know

I had been listening on KPFK LA to Suzanne Malvaux

On Monday February 19th 1996 Amy’s voice rang out loud and clear

With the War and Peace Report — the Exception to the Rulers

After that day my life changed

My schedule permanently rearranged

I listened — initially on KPFK, later on the DISH

Hardly a broadcast have I missed

Over the years I have come to depend

On DN a beacon of truth without end

Through the years DN documented our excursions

And accurately predicted our immoral incursions

One highlight I recall

Was the most significant of all

When President Clinton called and brazenly boasted and justified

The effectiveness of his lethal Iraq blockade- genocidal in many eyes.

To him it was a source of pride—no mystery

That the blockade was the tightest in the world’s history

And the death of 650,000 kids was quite all right

As enunciated by his secretary of state Madeline Albright

Through the years I have obtained a graduate degree

In the University of Democracy

Tirelessly Amy and Juan have stood for the truth

In a world and country that is most uncouth.

In the wretched state in which we live

where the media has served to give

The go ahead to the engines of war

DemocracyNow has spoken truth so far.

Untold numbers of friends I have told

If you truly want to know what’s happening in the world

Listen to Amy and you shall know

The forces that make the world go.
