Hanging Saddam (Destroying History)
We find him, we kill him
That goes without saying
He’s Hitler incarnate
And guilty of slaying
His countrymen alas
With guns, torture and gas
A real desperado but part
Of his curriculum vitae
Is a stint as our partner
With the CIA.
Yes, Pappy Bush did it
Behind Congresses back.—
Armed him- supplied him
With weapons quite black
Yes, Iraqgate was a scandal
That just happened to pass
With a strategic pardon
That saved pappy’s ass.
But the facts of history
Are plain to see
Rumsfeld in Bagdad
In December of 83
Arranging and wooing
The man that we needed
To help with Iran
Oh, we desperately pleaded.
For him to help us
And in exchange
We showered him with
Billions in bucks, guns and change.
And so, Saddam’s Mass killings
Of thousands of Kurds
Were done with the CIA
Having the last word.
Yes we helped- we spotted
His targets most accurately
And the gas that he used
We surely can say
Was made with reagents
From the old US of A.
So, Saddam was bad
(That’s not in dispute)
Evil by choice and plan–
But nevertheless, our man.
So, he’s caught in a spider hole
Bearded and disheveled
And whisked to the green zone
Where justice is waiting
In the court of our own making
Just made to order
With all the support
Any lawyer would need
To see that Saddam’s
Trial should proceed
And with great haste
Charges were skillfully crafted
By US advisors
To focus attention
On just 103 victims
Whose demise implicit
Predated Rumsfeld’s
Late ‘83 visit.
For Saddam’s excesses
Mostly occurred
Within the time frame
When we could have demurred.
So, the Iraqi court arrived
At its preordained conclusion
And hung him outright
With just a little confusion.
And by doing this
The US destroys Saddam and
With elegant simplicity
The embarrassing history
Of American complicity.
