Origin of Police Violence Toward Blacks
It is an undeniable fact
Many police hate blacks
This arose in slavery days that took their toll
Where impoverished whites were recruited to the slave patrol
This recruitment system came along
To make them feel they belong
And with the whip and lash making black men cower
Gave them a sense of overwhelming power.
When in reality their situation was tenuous at best
But this power set them off from the rest.
A shrewd policy through the years
Used white police to stoke black fears
And professor McCoy has shown the horror
As violence and police torture increased with each war
We formed the Philippine constabulary
And added surveillance and torture to the police vocabulary.
Particularly in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq
Saw soldiers becoming police at home and bringing back
Racist, brutal and unspeakable solutions
Totally corrupting our domestic institutions
White fear of black slaves and their total domination
Has always been a feature of the history of this nation.
Lynching, often in response to accusations of rape of white women it’s clear
Was always a latent manifestation of white man’s underlying fear
And black women have long been at the mercy of the white man
It seems almost unbelievable and inhuman
That it was not until the 1970s the first white man
Was convicted of raping a black woman!!!!
Strong black men have always been a threat
The war on drugs has been a way to control
And stand your ground laws have given whites reason
To have an open coon hunting season
Considering the number of unarmed men of skin black
Who have been blatantly shot by police in the back
It is not surprising that we have seen relatives grieve
Over black men killed while saying “I can’t breathe”

Comments:
White slave holders lived in fear of black slave revolts. One led by Toussant L’ Overture (See Democracy Now May 18, 2020 discussed by black history professor of medicine, Frank Snowden, was successful in defeating Napoleon (for which the French and the world made Haiti pay from 1804 to after WWII. The white power structure hated Haiti, and this survives to today. And there was always an underlying fear that white women might like or even prefer black men. That was often basis for lynching. The police have always been used by elites to control society. Witness police brutality in labor struggles, in the south and continuing and ongoing today. The war on drugs put millions of potentially rebellious black men in prison (at per diem prison rates produced an economic benefit that in a way has replaced slavery (The New Jim Crow) …The violence and property damage we see today is understandable, but really unfortunate. Non-violence is really preferable. Violence gives license to employ force which is just what people like Trump want. E.g. he calls protestors Thugs and call for guns…a violent response….
Also, Professor Alfred McCoy talks about militarization of the police in the Spanish American war in the Philippines. And how the techniques used in policing the Empire are brought home with each new war. We see the racism (Japs, Krauts, Gooks, Ragheads), and frankly torture. For we know wholesome American boys have done their share of that…. My Lai was a daily occurrence in Vietnam. So citizens at home to many become the enemy and are treated as such. …. HC
