The Night of the Setting Red Sun and Rising Red Moon: The Witch Fire 1-13-2013
The red sun slinks away as a fiery red ball
With the Santa Ana winds threatening all
Of the southland wind-whipped
Tortured, abused
Refugees a million strong
Qualcom stadium packed in throngs
And every shelter in between.
While the real problem remains unseen
With fires in Greece and Georgia burning
Is this an ominous warning?
Of the disastrous effects of global warming?
Meanwhile the red sun sets skulkily
And the red moon rises gloriously. .

On the Witch fire in San Diego 10-23-07. As a child my mother stayed in a cabin on Witch Creek near Santa Ysabel a few miles from Julian, California. I and my brothers stayed there many times while growing up. The place was always dry with lots of chaparral and house-sized boulders. . Water was obtained from a spring taking several hours to fill a 5gallon jug. There was a well which was dry most of the time. (Although on one trip with a bunch of scouts it poured three days straight and the well started to yield water again).
