To a Special Nurse

While physicians nominally run the show

It is really the nurses who are in the know.

Nurses dispense meds, with comfort and flair

To patients in varying states of despair.

Nurses are able to somehow learn

The patient’s deepest concerns

They develop that 6th sense that things may be wrong.

And pass the information swiftly along.

They see patients at their absolute cores

And cheerfully perform seemingly repugnant chores

They have the ability to put patients at ease

And to help them understand their disease

It takes patience and caring to do what they do

They truly serve their fellow man- that’s me and you

Yes nurses epitomize –I say to your face

The very best of the human race.

But surely in my experience the paragon

Is our own Liz Aragon.
