2519232444_69febd8bf6_oHoward P. Charman, MD was born in 1941 in San Diego, California. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and attended medical school at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Charman was a conscientious objector during the Viet Nam War, and was involved with Physicians for Social Responsibility at the height of the Cold War. He spent the early part of his career as a cancer researcher, then practiced medicine as a family doctor in Freedom, California, where he frequently accepted baked goods and cheese in lieu of payment. Following a return to school, he completed his pathology residency at UC Davis and a fellowship in neuropathology at UCSF. He is now director of the pathology laboratory at San Antonio Community Hospital in Upland, California.

Dr. Charman has two sons, two step-sons, three granddaughters, two grandsons and a great grandson. He lives in Alta Loma with his wife, Dawn Charman, their two cats and puppy.
